About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Lindenhurst, NY, The Village Lanterne offers an authentic and inviting German dining experience that captures the rich flavors and warm traditions of European cuisine. This beloved restaurant and bar is a culinary gem where hearty German classics meet cozy ambiance, making it a standout destination for both locals and visitors craving genuine comfort food with a European twist.

The menu’s star attractions like the Schwabisch Meat Platter, Sauerbraten & Dumpling, and Chicken Schnitzel boast deeply satisfying flavors that are both nostalgic and expertly crafted. Imagine tender meat slow-cooked to perfection, served alongside pillowy dumplings soaked in savory gravy, or golden, crispy potato pancakes that offer the perfect balance of crunch and softness. The freshly baked Pretzel Bread pairs wonderfully with their selection of great German beers, creating a truly immersive experience. Sweet lovers will find bliss in decadent desserts such as the classic Black Forest Cake and the luscious German Chocolate Cake, each bite a beautiful harmony of rich chocolate, fruity notes, and delicate textures.

The Village Lanterne also showcases a diverse range of entrees like the Chicken Parmesan, featuring a tender breaded chicken cutlet topped with fresh tomato basil sauce and melted muenster cheese, as well as seafood specialties such as the Potato Crusted Salmon and Chilean Sea Bass served with shrimp and lobster. Their creative burger lineup — themed cleverly after the "All The Kings Wives" — offers unique flavor combinations like the spicy Jane Seymour jalapeno burger or the hearty Catherine Of Aragon pastrami and sauerkraut-topped sirloin, delivering bold, unforgettable taste profiles.

Step inside, and you’ll immediately notice the charming traditional German décor that wraps you in a warm, nostalgic embrace. Several guests have praised the atmosphere as cozy and inviting—an ideal backdrop for lively conversations, celebratory gatherings, or a relaxing night out. The friendly and attentive staff further elevate the experience, ensuring each visit feels personal and welcoming.

Live music adds a vibrant layer to the dining experience, with regular performances that include classic rock and folk tunes—one guest fondly recalls hearing songs by Jim Croce and George Harrison during an open mic night. This blend of great food, spirited ambiance, and authentic entertainment makes The Village Lanterne more than just a restaurant; it’s a community hub where memories are made.

Whether you come for a casual dinner, a birthday celebration, or a quiet evening with friends, The Village Lanterne delivers fresh, expertly prepared food alongside a genuine sense of warmth and camaraderie. The Village Lanterne is a great spot for authentic German food. Everything we had was fresh and absolutely delicious, and the menu offers plenty of food and drink options to choose from, so there’s something for everyone. One of the coolest parts of this place is the décor inside. The traditional German-style decorations really stand out and make the atmosphere feel warm and unique. It adds a lot to the overall experience and makes it a fun place to sit and enjoy a meal. The staff were kind, helpful, and knowledgeable, especially when it came to explaining the menu. This place does get busy, so I’d definitely recommend making a reservation. Parking in the village can also be a little tough at times. Overall, it’s a must-try and well worth the visit.

Had my birthday here with my kids and it was amazing. The people who were at the tables near us were all talking to me and each other. It was so inviting and like a community. Olivia was our waitress and she was fantastic! Great ambiance, live music was playing. They have an open mic on Mondays and there were Jim Croce songs, George Harrison, some stones and more. The food was very German. My kids schplit a schnitzel and they loved it with their spaetzle. I had the schwab dinner and I was super happy with it. The whole thing was amazing. See my pics

5 stars all around. Food was fantastic. Service and atmosphere was top notch. Only advice is make a reservation. We showed up 10 minutes after opening and almost didn't get in!
